Sephora Black Card x Private Sale Haul (Oct 2014)

Happy Tuesday everyone!

I haven’t posted anything about my shopping haul because there are way too many items bought over the past 5 months (last update was in May) and I haven’t been able to find time for it. But I’ll definitely get my Carousell haul post up soon, I promise! For now, let’s settle for a mini one from Sephora, shall we? 🙂

I remember filling out the application form to be a member of Sephora’s Loyalty Programme at the Orchard ION branch in 2011 but only started using the White card more often when I got hooked onto beauty products about a year later. However, I feel that other than getting a 10% discount upon accumulating enough points, there wasn’t much exclusivity to being a member because anyone can be a White card holder. Also as a huge spender, you’d naturally want to be set apart from the casual buyers. Thus when I learned about the launch of the Black Card, I was super ecstatic! Partly because my White card is becoming a breeding ground for algae (I have no idea how it got there) and I was already planning to get a replacement (not sure if it’s allowed though).

Black Card holders get to enjoy:

  • VIP access to private sales
  • 10% off on next visit with every 250 points earned in 3 countries (Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand)
  • Pretty birthday surprises
  • Receive exclusive invites to events and workshops

To be a Black Card member, you have to accumulate 250 points.

The privileges are not much difference from the White card I guess. But black is a nicer colour, so yeah.

Just so you know, Sephora USA has a similar loyalty programme called the Beauty Insider but it is waaay cooler because it has 3 ranks – Beauty Insider, VIB and VIB Rouge. Of course, the more you spend, the higher you climb the ladder. Why can’t Sephora Singapore implement the same system? 😦

Anyway, these are what I got from the private sale for Black Card members. It’s not a lot though because I already have most of the stuff I wanted. But I would’ve definitely spent more if Urban Decay Vice 3 was available.

Everything at Sephora was 20% off 😀

SAMSUNG CSC

2 of my purchases are rather new products which I hadn’t tried.

SAMSUNG CSC

Benefit Boi-ing in 02 (S$27.20, UP S$34) & Clarisonic Brush Head for Sensitive Skin (S$28, UP S$35)

SAMSUNG CSC

Benefit They’re Real Push-up Liner (S$30.40, UP S$38), Fresh Soy Face Cleanser (S$18.40, UP S$23) & MAC Pro Longwear Lip Pencil in Etcetera (S$28, UP S$35)

The cleanser and brush head are items I’d get on a regular basis because I use them pretty often. I’m about to empty my current tube so this sale was actually very timely. 😀

I’ll take this chance to do a quick review of the wearable products if case some of you’re interested.

Let’s begin with my all-time favourite concealer. Are you ready to see my naked face?

SAMSUNG CSC

Woke up with a few new tiny zits. (pardon my messy hair)

SAMSUNG CSC

NO FILTER: With Boi-ing on top of POREfessional. Only concealed certain areas.

Finally a shade that is a perfect match to my skin tone! I was using 03 previously because I thought I had grown tanner but no, it was so dark on me. It’s strange because 02 used to be too light on me. Well, my skin could’ve returned to its original shade after jogging under shady trees lol.

The award-winning industrial strength concealer camouflages 98% of my flaws. It is by far the best concealer I’ve ever used because the creamy and thick cream doesn’t really get rubbed off even when I apply my foundation over it (yes, my routine is conceal first then apply foundation). It covers even the reddest pimple.

Moving on…

SAMSUNG CSC

From The Matte Lip collection: MAC Pro Longwear Lip Pencil in Etcetera (UP S$35)

Yes, another product from The Matte Lip! Love this collection a lot. Every lipstick, except for Damn Glamorous, was sold out at Sephora ION outlet. I believe it’s the same for most branches in Singapore.

SAMSUNG CSC

SAMSUNG CSC

Etcetera is a creamy beige.

I got Etcetera after swatching almost every lip pencil (from this collection) on my hand. The other shade I was contemplating about was Staunchly Stylish I think. But of course, being a darker shade, it was outright rejected by Bf who was with me at Sephora. -_-

Something must have distracted me because I had forgotten to wipe off the pencil marks on my wrist. But guess what? They were still there in their original shape after almost 4 hours of constant rubbing against my bracelets and watch. Wow! Full marks for longevity. But removal can be a chore!

SAMSUNG CSC

Lip pencils tend to be more on the dry side hence they will not go well as lipsticks on flaky and chapped lips! You are going to have a hard and painful time applying and removing it. But it also does its job well as a lip liner 🙂

SAMSUNG CSC

Wore this out to Madame Tussauds last Sunday!

Knowing that it has a long lasting effect, I used this in place of lipstick on my lips. And true enough, it stayed on for the entire day. One of my biggest issues with lipsticks is that I leave behind stains everywhere my lips come into contact with – on straws, spoons, cups, etc. But with MAC Pro Longwear Lip Pencil? Rarely. It stays on until you attack it with a makeup removal wipe.

But of course, I still prefer my lipsticks because they are less time-consuming and dry, and are more vibrant? I’ll just use the lip pencil to line my lips.

Check out my review on lipsticks from MAC The Matte Lip collection!

And finally, for the eyes…

SAMSUNG CSC

Benefit They’re Real Push-up Liner. New ones come with an orange plug/stopper at the tip.

SAMSUNG CSC

Didn’t manage to capture the process, so here’s the result! (plz ignore those unsightly tiny bumps)

It works almost like any twist up eyeliners but this comes with an Accuflex Tip for easy application. Just twist the base around until a teeny weeny bit of the gel is delivered to the top. You don’t want to dispense too much of the gel because they’d break and clump together like a ball. Trust me, you wouldn’t want your face speckled with fallouts.

My verdict: I’m probably going to use this very often because it’s proven to be budge-proof and it’s relatively easy to apply. Plus I didn’t have to do much to cover the tiny space between my lash line and my lids. The eyeliner automatically fills in the gap for me (thus “lash-hugging”). It’s gonna save me a lot of time on days I oversleep.

However, removal would take a little more time. It shouldn’t be a problem if you’re using a good-quality removal wipe (for the record, I’m using Simple Spotless Skin Quick Fix Cleansing Wipes).

SAMSUNG CSC

FANTASTICO 🙂

That’s all for this haul post! Do share with me your thoughts about any of the mentioned products 🙂

Thanks for reading lovelies ❤

Madame Tussauds Singapore

Hey everyone!

Madame Tussauds FINALLY opened in Singapore on Saturday and the very exited me bought the admission tickets as soon as I got wind of their sale. I remember seeing a standee at Bangkok promoting their Madame Tussauds a few years back but didn’t have the chance to go because we wanted to set aside more money for shopping. But deep in my heart I really wanted to tour Madame Tussauds and see how realistic the wax figures are! Thus, needless to say, I was really elated when I first read the news about the opening of Madame Tussauds here. But what took them so long?!

Buying tickets is a breeze . With the Internet these days, you can beat the crowd (expected for new attractions) and just purchase tickets online! PLUS, if you book your tickets 24 hours in advance (valid ’til 31 December 2014), you only need to pay S$20 instead of S$30! Being such a sucker for discounts, I immediately got a pair despite being so broke this week from all the shopping. But twenty bucks is really a steal and worth the awesome experience I had at the wax museum.

The only thing I didn’t like was its location though because on top of the S$20 admission fee, I had to pay S$2 (bus) or S$4 (monorail) just to enter Sentosa -_- So expensive just for a short distance argh *nags incessantly*

I went with my boyfriend and we actually planned to go on the day of opening. But later we realised that there wouldn’t be enough time for us to go around the museum after having to attend my niece’s first birthday party in the afternoon (and going to a Sephora sale event hehe) so we postponed the trip to the following day!

To reach Madame Tussauds, you’d need to take the monorail to Imbiah station and walk to Merlion Plaza where you’d find 3 flights of escalators leading to this white mansion which I can’t really remember what it used to be. I hope those escalators are well-maintained because nobody likes climbing stairs. If you can’t find the escalators, try looking for Lady Gaga:

SAMSUNG CSC

Greetings from Merlion Plaza

We arrived at about 6pm , 1.5 hours before the time of last entry, and there wasn’t many people waiting to go in. In fact there was no crowd at all! We either came too late or people are avoiding the museum until the resumption of the boat ride or… the museum is under-promoted. If it’s due to the second reason, you will be glad to know that you’d be given free tickets (valid ’til 30 November 2014) to visit the place again! So yup, I paid S$20 for a ticket and got an additional one free! How awesome is that? 😀 And I will definitely go again because there will be more wax figures coming over!

2 + 2 complimentary tickets! And a $10 booklet which we bought for keepsake. There’re also discount vouchers (for your hand cast in wax and photo-taking sessions) inside!

Less talking, more pictures! Most of the photos were taken by Bf 🙂

**Updated on 3 December 2014**
The boat is now available for use! We went back again on the last day of November since we were given a pair of complimentary tickets. Here are some pictures taken during the boat ride.

SAMSUNG CSC

Lion dance! It actually moved when the boat was approaching.

SAMSUNG CSC

Madame Tussauds Singapore is the first to have its own water boat right but honestly, it’s nothing to wow about. The boat went around the quay but there was nothing much to see apart from those in the pictures above. The ride only lasted for less than 5 minutes. Totally not worth the time travelling all the way to Sentosa and the $4 entrance fee 😦

SAMSUNG CSC

Took this on our second visit!

The Leaders Area comes first after the boat ride!

SAMSUNG CSC

Former President of Indonesia, Sukarno

SAMSUNG CSC

China’s Chairman Mao

Do Communist leaders share the same kind of style? Somehow Mao Tse-tung resembles Kim Jong-il here.

SAMSUNG CSC

The first president of the Republic of Singapore, Yusof bin Ishak. Here’s Bf holding a ten-dollar Singapore note.

Bf suggested to be photographed with a Singapore banknote (which also has the president’s face on it) and then suddenly everyone behind us followed suit when it was their turn. -_- Well… when in Rome, do as the Romans do right? But maybe in a bid to be different, the guy after us (probably a tourist) actually pulled out a bigger note ($50) lol!

SAMSUNG CSC

So loving: Singapore’s first Prime Minister, Lee Kuan Yew and his late wife, Kua Geok Choo. No matter what people say, LKY is still our founding father 🙂

I wonder if Mr Lee Kuan Yew has personally seen his wife’s wax figure and if he had, how did he react? It’d probably be an emotional moment for him looking at it because everyone knows how much his wife meant to him. Anyway, I thought the figures could do without the tacky flower decorations in the background.

SAMSUNG CSC

SO realistic it’s scary.

SAMSUNG CSC

The late President of South Africa, Nelson Mandela

Current President of the United States of America, Barack Obama. I’m like a midget beside him oh myyyy.

There’s an empty chair beside him which visitors can sit to take a picture BUT the first picture must be taken using the museum’s camera (which is of course chargeable). Why pay when you can take pictures with the real PM Lee himself (at events where he’d attend)? Well, unless you’re a tourist.

SAMSUNG CSC

Is Queen Elizabeth II really standing there?!?

Moving on to the Sports Area…

SAMSUNG CSC

I MELT FOR YOU, David Beckham! Kaoz, furrowed brows also so handsome.

SAMSUNG CSC

I ALSO MELT FOR YOU, Cristiano Ronaldo!

Unlike other football players, Cristiano Ronaldo always look damn well-groomed on the field. His hair stays ALL THE TIME and he doesn’t seem to sweat (a lot). Seriously, how does he do it? What brand of hairspray does he use?!

SAMSUNG CSC

Our very own footballer, Fandi Ahmad!

I swear I scrutinised and touched those pearly white teeth. Gosh, they really looked and felt real!

I don’t get why people are complaining about Huang Wenyong’s “presence” in the museum. I think he deserves a spot in Madame Tussauds for his exemplary achievement in the local TV industry. Don’t be such spoilsports can, you all? Just enjoy the exhibits la!

Let’s now mingle with the hottest celebrities at the A-List Party!

SAMSUNG CSC

Oh, it’s Aishwarya Rai!

SAMSUNG CSC

SAMSUNG CSC

Another gorgeous lady on my list! My all-time favourite martial arts actress, Michelle Yeoh!

SAMSUNG CSC

Nicole Kidman

SAMSUNG CSC

The extremely-versatile Johnny Depp

SAMSUNG CSC

New addition! Only saw this on our second visit. Meet Andy Lau. Welcome to Singapore!

SAMSUNG CSC

This is the closest I can get to him :\

SAMSUNG CSC

No A-List party is complete without Brangelina! But I’m sorry, they are going separate ways for the night.

The A-List party is the final stop before the Gift Shop where they are having a Buy-2-Get-1-Free promotion for the $9 keychains! Bf and I bought one each as souvenirs.

SAMSUNG CSC

With Serena Williams! The gift shop also sells Oscars trophies (they are actually paper weight) priced between $20-$25 each! I’m definitely getting one on my next visit. 😀 And maybe one for Leonardo DiCaprio lol.

SAMSUNG CSC

Expect more wax figures for more Hollywood celebrities like Kate Winslet and Julia Roberts in Madame Tussauds Singapore!

SAMSUNG CSC

Some more celebrities not in Madame Tussauds Singapore at the moment: Rihanna, Britney Spears and Victoria Beckham!

SAMSUNG CSC

And of course, our beloved Kate and Wills who are also not in the museum right now. The Queen is the only British royalty there.

SAMSUNG CSC

Bruce Willis at the entrance/exit

Even though the entire experience lasted for about 1.5 hours, it was FUN! I was totally amazed by the realism of the sculptures. They are so real that it feels like going to Madame Tussauds is the closest you can get to rubbing shoulders with your idols.

Also not forgetting the excellent service of the staff – they were so friendly and helpful, especially the Malay (I mention the race because there were many staff around ah) girl who suggested to me to pose with Serena Williams with an Oscars trophy at the Gift Shop. I was caught by surprise because the trophy was an item on sale and usually sales assistants would be very uptight when they see items get played around with in the shop.

On top of that, I never felt watched at all during the whole time I was there hence I never felt restricted in the way I took my photos (i.e. selfies on my phone lol). Another Chinese male staff also helped to take the above photo of us with Brangelina twice without us asking. This may be a small gesture but I think it’s also the little things that make a big difference in customer service. So two thumbs up to everyone working at Madame Tussauds Singapore! 🙂

It was $20 well-spent! I will definitely return for a second visit even if I wasn’t given a free ticket haha.

That’s all for this post! Hope you guys enjoyed it ❤

SAMSUNG CSC

Adult tickets are priced at S$30 at the counters and S$26 (oops, no more $20 sorry) for early birds. Child and senior tickets are sold at S$16 and S$23 respectively online.

REVIEW: MAC The Matte Lip Lipsticks – Fashion Revival, Pander Me, Styled in Sepia & Living Legend

Oh hey, I’m back with another lipstick haul from… *drums roll* yah, yah, you know it. From MAC website.

And I swear MAC knows that I’m lusting over their lipsticks because they’ve been releasing a lot of gorgeous ones lately and yes, I’m talking about those from the Rocky Horror collection which literally ran out within MINUTES. Needless to say, I failed to lay my hands on them (ugh, I’d have gotten everything except for Sin, which I already have, goddammit) because of timezone difference and.. I didn’t know it was so highly anticipated hence I didn’t stalk the site. Now, probably to make up for my loss *boohoo*, they have decided to release a lipstick collection entirely in Matte finish.

ASDFGHJKLKKJHGSQER please gimme a moment while I hyperventilate.

mac-themattelip

themattelip-promo

I freakin’ love Matte lipsticks in case you don’t already know. Satin ranks second, followed by Amplified – if you’re talking about just MAC. But yes, regardless of the brand, I’d always pick the Matte one from the lot. Because it stays much longer, gives nicer and fuller lips and I feel that my face doesn’t need additional shine for now, no thanks to my oily complexion.

What’s more, there are quite a number of dark shades in this collection! WHUT WHUTTT.

Singaporeans! Find out how to buy from maccosmetics.com here!

For this collection, everything is limited edition with the exception of Heroine. “Limited Edition” is such a dangerous marketing phrase for shopaholics like myself. Use it on my favourite cosmetic brands and you’ll have my moolahs.

At this point I realise that I’ve gone too crazy on the caps lock, bold and italic buttons. I apologise if I sound like an emotionally unstable adolescent girl.

The Matte Lip, as its name implies, is a collection of lip products and blush to go with the look. Lipstick shades for this collection are Styled in Sepia, Pander Me, Nouvelle Vogue, Damn Glamorous, La Vie En Rouge, Fashion Revival, Living Legend and Heroine. Nonconformists or those who feel that lipsticks wear off too easily can opt for lip pencils (Pro Longwear Lip Pencils in Etcetera, Staunchly Stylish, Trust in Red, Fashion Boost, Absolutely It and Bespoken For). Blush (Pro Longwear Blush in I’m a Lover, Fleeting Romance and Make You Mine) is limited edition too.

Official swatch. For the record, the other shades apart from those reviewed here are Nouvelle Vouge (soft blue pink), Damn Glamorous (bright pink red), Heroine (bright purple) and La Vie En Rouge (bright orange coral).

For this entry, I will just be reviewing my purchases which are mainly from the lipstick section! Four lippies in total! Oh boy oh boy.. 😀

One word: PERFECT (and how often do I compliment nude shades?) Basically this has become my new HOLY GRAIL MLBB lipstick because I’ve been wearing it out since taking this photo (which usually is when I first try new lipsticks, to be more objective in my critic). I think it exudes a kind of sweet femininity and makes me look good! I’m not sure about other girls but I’m a clean freak. That did not stop me from getting Styled in Sepia though! This shade, despite its intriguing yet unpleasant description (“dirty cement beige”), is probably the only one “dirty” thing that we wouldn’t mind putting on our face. It’s a very unique colour and I feel that it’s a the Matte version of Icon (review here) which is great because I didn’t like Icon that much due to the excessive shimmers.

Living Legend, Fashion Revival against the other shades of purple that I could find at home! All of them are from MAC.

And from the above comparison, you can clearly see the stark similarity between Living Legend and Sin. Fashion Revival, on the other hand, is like a twin of Rebel.

This collection carries quite a number of new shades that are very much alike to existing ones, with the exception of Pander Me, of course! Hence it wouldn’t be much of a big deal if these get pulled off the shelves because similar alternatives are readily available on the web and at your nearest brick and mortar MAC store. Fashion Revival is already sold out online the last time I checked. And most of the shades are already gone in MAC outlets 😦

OK, that’s all from me for this collection! Did you buy anything this time? What are your thoughts? 🙂

Thanks for reading ladies! ❤

The Matte Lip is still available on maccosmetics.com and also in Singapore MAC stores for a limited time.
