[SHOUT-OUT] Shopee 脳 Seoul Shop Pop-Up Store @ Suntec City

Hello everyone!

The Prudential Marina Bay Carnival opens tomorrow and those who’ve planned to go there might be wondering what to do before the doors open at 4 pm. Well, perhaps you could consider adding Suntec City to your afternoon itinerary since it’s just one stop away from Bayfront MRT and has a free shuttle service to the carnival. Most importantly, if you’re into all things Korean, there’s something new there to keep you occupied for at least an hour!

From now till 17 December 2017 (that’s two days from now), get your Korean fix without leaving Singapore! In partnership with Shopee, Seoul Shop (the same management behind I’M STARTICE) has set up a pop-up store at Suntec City (West-North Link) that provides a unique (believe me on this) and fuss-free shopping experience!

Expect an array of products ranging from beauty, accessories to household essentials flown in from South Korea at the store which will make great Christmas gifts! For the neat freaks, I spotted some nice 2018 planners on the shelves too 馃槅

But how is this little retail space different from the surfeit of pop-up stores out there? For one, a customer service counter takes the place of the cashier because the shop adopts a contactless payment system whereby only credit cards are accepted through the Shopee app. In other words, all purchases at the pop-up store are made聽through @hiseoul.sg聽on the Shopee app so you don’t have to tote around your bulky wallet! Hence, don’t be deceived by the lack of customers waiting in line at the counter (as given the Singaporean mentality, when a shop has short or no queue, it is presumably not good, right?) because checkout queues are practically nonexistent at the pop-up shop!

That said, do arm yourselves with the app already downloaded on your phone to speed up the transaction process (and save your mobile data). Once you have the app installed, register for an account with your mobile number, add a credit card via Account Settings and you are good to go! In the meantime, you can browse the catalogue to get a better sense of what may be available at the pop-up shop. Due to space constraints, only a small selection of items (from the catalogue) is sold at the pop-up shop so it is advisable that you drop by before you make any order on the app.

What’s more, buying through the app entitles you to a 15% off your total bill with the code “HISESEOUL“! There will be a live makeup demonstration by native Korean makeup artist Jinnie Lee on Saturday and Sunday (16/12, 17/12) at 1-2 pm and 6-7 pm so be sure to stick around if you’re heading to the pop-up store this weekend! Psst.. I heard there will also flash deals up for grabs over the weekend! You won’t wanna miss them 馃い

Can’t make it for the event or want something on mobile but is not available at the store? If you don’t mind the wait, go ahead and place your order with ease because Shopee is currently offering FREE local shipping聽on top of the 15% discount that is extended to orders made through the app! Simply apply the same code “HISESEOUL” at checkout to enjoy the offer! But remember, all good things must come to an end – this irresistible promotion sadly runs right up until this Sunday, 17 December 2017. The good news, though, is that you get to keep the Shopee coins (100 Shopee Coins = $1 discount) you earned from your Seoul Store order for three months!

That’s not all! Shopping at the pop-up store comes with an extra treat – a goodie bag! But do act fast because the goodie bags are available while stock lasts on a first-come-first-serve basis and are limited to one redemption per person. Psst.. get another friend to make the payment of half your order to fully utilise this offer 馃槣

Mmm, what else? Oh yes, a grand draw! Who can say no to contests? Stand a chance to win a pair of tickets to Seoul by following @hiseoul.sg on Shopee. And as an added bonus for your support, you get to double your chances of winning with any purchase on @hiseoul.sg from 11 to 17 December too! Easy, right?

[SHOUT-OUT & GIVEAWAY] I’M STARTICE, Korean Premium Shop @ Big Box

GIVEAWAY CLOSED
SCROLL DOWN FOR WINNERS

It was barely 11 a.m. on a Saturday, just four days shy of our nation’s birthday. Blaring music from the tower speakers configured next to a stage for a significant event at Big Box pierced the usually-quiet mall in Jurong East. Unbeknownst to many, a Korean premium shop initiated and appointed by the Korean government (Small & Medium Business Corporation or SBC for short) as an exclusive authorised agent to promote their locally-made products was about to open its doors officially.

This 4270-square-foot unit marks the first Singapore outlet for I’M STARTICE(鞎勳瀯鞀ろ儉韹办姢) which already has locations worldwide including the U.S., China, Vietnam and Indonesia. The relatively low-key occasion was graced by one-eighth of Running Man cast, Ji Suk-jin, as well as business partners and several South Korean government officials. I’M STARTICE commemorated its official opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a free lucky draw where shoppers could stand a chance to win up to S$1000 worth of shopping vouchers. Missed it? Conveniently located right before J-Walk connecting to Jem on level 2, I’M STARTICE boasts a wide variety of products from cosmetics to food to household wares (not sold anywhere else in Singapore) by small to medium enterprises with a limited selection of offerings from mainstream brands such as Innisfree (mainly their facial masks) and Lotte. Due to their low visibility, most of the brands carried at the shop may be unfamiliar even to the most dedicated Koreaboos but they are in no way inferior to more established brands. Apart from the stringent South Korean safety standards they have to comply with, it is also no secret that K-beauty products in general are made of high-quality聽(and sometimes exotic) ingredients which their Western counterparts fall behind on. And yet, they are inexpensive. For instance, a 125 ml tub of Mizon’s Water Max Aqua Gel Cream costs just S$19.90 when a similar product聽by a more reputable brand聽with less than half the volume would set you back at least S$50.

6 Reasons Why Fajar Shopping Centre is Awesome

SPONSORED

Hello everyone!

Come this February will be three years聽since I moved from my long-time residence in Bukit Batok to Bukit Panjang. Although both are technically in the Western part of Singapore, each of them has their own distinct personality. As a newer town, Bukit Panjang (henceforth BP) may not have a public transport as well-integrated as Bukit Batok聽yet聽(looking forward to the new聽BP MRT station!)聽but it has聽certainly come a long way in the last 20 odd years. From a secluded or ulu estate in the聽early ’00s along with a lack of amenities, it is now a vibrant self-contained town with many bus聽services聽connecting to the city,聽complete聽with at least two聽community centres, a swimming complex, dozen of eateries (not forgetting the newly-built BP Hawker Centre and Market), two pretty decent malls and a few HDB聽heartland聽shopping centres scattered all around the neighbourhood to cater to the diverse needs of BP residents!

“Eh, what are HDB heartland shopping centres?”

Unlike urban malls, these聽smaller-scale shopping centres聽house聽a cluster of everyday shops聽and are聽normally located within a community to serve primarily the residents living around the area! They are not air-conditioned, however, but maybe聽that’s how rents are affordable聽and prices there are kept to the minimum, right? 馃檪

In fact, these HDB heartland shopping centres have been a commonplace around Singapore. You may not know it, but there should be at least one in the vicinity of your house. Not sure where? Check this list out!

Fajar Shopping Centre

Fajar Shopping Centre

In my case, the nearest one is Fajar Shopping Centre聽which has served me well during my聽considerable length of stay here. So without further ado,聽here are 6聽reasons why you should go to Fajar Shopping Centre.. and perhaps why moving to Fajar/Segar isn’t a bad idea after all (property agents marketing BP flats, you can quote me on that).

1. 聽It聽is more convenient than you think

Fajar LRT station

Fajar LRT station

Directly next to Fajar LRT station (like, literally beside it) and accessible by 2 city-bound and 1 feeder buses (bus-stop just smacked right in front), it is easily聽the most convenient heartland shopping centre in the Bukit Panjang housing estate.聽There’s also ample parking space if you’re driving, both within the compound of the shopping centre (multi-storey carpark)聽and the HDB flats around it. What’s more, parking is FREE聽at Fajar Shopping Centre during lunch time from Monday to Saturday, 12 noon to 2pm. And yes, there are good eats there as well! I will touch more on that in a bit.

Free Lunchtime Parking!

Free Lunchtime Parking!

2. There are聽THREE 24-hour shops for your late-night needs..

That’s right, folks. THREE.

They are McDonald’s, 7-eleven and mini GIANT supermarket, all conveniently located on the ground level.

McDonald's at Fajar Shopping Centre

McDonald’s at Fajar Shopping Centre

I think it is very essential聽to have convenience shops or eateries that operate all day and night in the neighbourhood because they help to save on delivery charges (and that聽unnecessary money you have to spend on more food just to hit the minimum order amount)聽when midnight hunger pangs strike! Furthermore, if you’re not too perturbed by the聽lingering food smells, McDonald’s is actually a great place to study (and snack when time comes) after midnight because it’s聽usually rather quiet by then.

3. ..and many聽specialty stores聽to accommodate every other shopper

Whether you’re an aspiring musician, a bargain hunter or a stationery hoarder,聽Fajar Shopping Centre has got you covered! Apart from the usual apparel shops (many pushcarts selling accessories around!), salons and whatnot, there are also a reputable music school, a value shop and a huge stationery shop that spans across two聽units!

If you’re feeling lucky, you can also purchase lottery tickets at Singapore Pools on the second level! Too stressed out at work? House of Tui Na is just a few shops down the row. In addition to that, parents can drop off their kids at Carpe Diem Young Joy and then leave to do their grocery shopping! And that brings me to the next point.

4. You can grocery shop at any time of the day

Not only is there a supermarket but also an indoor聽wet market for the early risers. I didn’t know there was a wet market the first time I went to Fajar Shopping Centre because it聽doesn’t聽look like it from the outside (and somehow I failed to聽notice the big “Fajar Market” lettering on the wall). With glass doors leading to the market on both entrances, it definitely looked more like an office building to me (I honestly thought it was the Town Council la).

Fajar Market

As聽hygiene and cleanliness become the top priority these days, the wet market is relatively clean and spacious! The floor was perfectly dry when I was there on two occasions.

5. There are plenty of food choices under one roof

Of course, no shopping centre is complete without a food court!聽While most urban enclosed malls have just one, Fajar Shopping Centre has TWO – one with air-conditioner (Koufu) and another without (Astar). Impressive or not?

Koufu

I 聽haven’t personally tried the food at Astar kopitiam but people living in Bukit Panjang have been raving to no end about the vegetarian food, which attracts a long queue of customers every time!

6. Festive activities are planned for聽shoppers

To further enhance the shopping experience of residents聽and encourage family cohesion, the Housing Development Board (who聽operates聽these HDB heartland shopping centres) would also have programmes and activities lined up every now and then, especially during festive periods! The last time I was at Fajar Shopping Centre, there was an event specially organised to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival!

Event banner

Due to the聽haze from the Indonesian forest fires shrouding Singapore for the past few weeks, many outdoor activities were cancelled so I was worried that this would be scrapped too! Fortunately, the haze miraculously cleared up on that day (and came back with a vengeance the following day) and the event went off without a hitch.

I submitted my lantern to the panel but decided not to participate in the competition eventually because it would be so unfair to the young kids if I won. There were 10 winners but the top 3 winners got to walk away with some household items. The grand winner, if I remember correctly, received聽a rice cooker. Whoa, not bad for such a small-scale competition leh! Kinda regret not joining in the end 馃槅

Having said that, my favourite part of the event聽still has聽got to be the caricature artist because.. who doesn’t like to be sketched?

The event concluded with a meet-and-greet session and lantern walkabout with the HDB mascot, Wisely! He was so popular among the children who kept groping聽him. Parents聽were also聽hounding him for a picture聽with their kids 馃槅

Indulge in the Sounds of Luxury with Harman Kardon, AKG & JBL

MEDIA INVITE

Listen up, audiophiles!

SAMSUNG CSC

CD galore!

If you’ve been to places like the Yankee Stadium and the iconic Beijing National Stadium for concerts, chances are you would have been awed by the incredibly high-quality聽sound system.聽But unknown聽to many, such superior sound quality can also be heard in enclosed聽places like in cars especially if you’re riding in an Audi, a BMW, Subaru, Hyundai or聽Chrysler, just to name a few. They may sound slightly different from one another due to the disparity in location size but ultimately they still sound insanely good to the ears.

That’s because all these venues and automobile manufacturers use HARMAN, the mastermind behind leading audio brands including JBL, AKG and Harman Kardon which are also used by international artistes like Kanye West, Maroon 5, Paul McCartney, Black Eyed Peas, Linkin Park (MY LUV!) and Kelly Clarkson in the studio and on stage.

In fact, if you have never聽heard of聽HARMAN (and the 7 highly-acclaimed audio brands under its belt), then you have not heard everything, literally. Apart from the voice of the artiste playing in your ears, the song lyrics and the main instrumental melody in the background, can you hear each and every聽bass and rhythmic note聽with your current headphones?聽Does it give you crisp and natural-sounding music that makes you feel like you’re聽at a live performance? And does聽it produce聽acoustic music that sounds so soulful and surreal, it聽serenades your soul and sends chills down your spine? If none of the above聽resonates with you, boy are you losing out a lot!

(Sadly, I was subconsciously describing what my earpiece can’t do too, boohoo)

With Harman Kardon, AKG and JBL, you get only the best sounds,聽so good聽that聽even Mozart would be proud.

harman-Mozart

Of course,聽I wouldn’t dare say that聽every product under Harman Kardon, AKG and JBL is rave-worthy (don’t want to risk getting聽slaughtered by you tech-geeks). But have you seen their latest range of portable聽speakers? I had the heaven-sent opportunity (since I’ve been on a lookout for better speakers as my current ones are spoiling and very unfortunately I fall into the stereotype of females who are completely clueless about technology) to experience them for myself at the recent HARMAN media event by IMS Marketing and wow, I was totally blown away by the loud-crystal clear sound projected by these small, innocuous-looking things that left my jaw hanging throughout the demo!

Here’s what I saw:

JBL (Smart Series III)

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Charge it, flip it, clip it. Fuel your passion for music!

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

JBL Clip Plus (RRP S$99)

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Small but powerful – these disc-like speakers can project sounds SO loud, it puts my home speakers to shame. It’s meant to be “clipped” onto your bicycle so that you cyclists can enjoy good music on the move for up to 5 hours!

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

JBL FLIP 3 (RRP S$179) –聽full-featured splashproof portable speaker with powerful sound in a compact form. It fits perfectly into the bottle cage attached to your bicycle! 馃檪

Captain-Jack-Sparrow

It actually means this…

jbl-splashproof

HELLLLLL NOOO how cool is this?! (featuring JBL Xtreme, S$439)

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

JBL Charge 2+ (RRP S$279) – another splashproof portable speaker but with 6000mAH rechargeable battery!

My Dad was gifted a JBL Charge 2+ recently and聽judging from his incessant music playbacks (kinda irritated by his poor choice of music but aiya, what to do?), I can vouch how long-lasting the battery life is! And the sound is聽just flawless.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

JBL Pulse II聽(RRP S$329) – 10-hour battery with custom LED light show that acts like a visualiser and changes according to the music tempo

harman-kardon-demo-2

So preeetzz! I think ABBA’s Dancing Queen was playing 馃榾

All the products above come with Social Mode which you can use to connect up to 3 music sources so that everyone in your clique gets a chance to play their favourite tunes. All JBL portable speakers can also be wirelessly connected via Bluetooth to one another so as to amplify the volume of the music played.

Harman Kardon

While it’s quite obvious that JBL exudes energetic and youthful vibes, Harman Kardon takes on a different personality and goes for the elegant and sophisticated feel.

harman-kardon-esquire-mini

Esquire Mini聽(RRP S$269) – an sleek and chic speaker that doubles as a conference phone system with dual-microphone and built-in echo and noise cancellation technology for superb sound and USB access to recharge your favourite devices. This all-in-one (speaker/phone system/microphone/portable charger) speaker has battery that can last for up to 8 hours

This product wasn’t showcased at the event so I didn’t get to see or test it out myself. But people who are well-versed in the audiomotive market should know that Harman Kardon (and other brands of HARMAN as a matter of fact) would never compromise on quality. After all, Harman Kardon had bagged quite a number of awards, including some iF Design Awards for its Esquire Mini 馃檪

AKG

I’d think that AKG is a hybrid of JBL and Harman Kardon because some of the products under its line can be both stylish and sporty at the same time, like this stunner:

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

AKG N90Q (RRP S$2199, yup it’s 璐电殑鍜) – gold headphones that listen to your ears. It has sound so realistic, the only barrier is the headphone itself

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Inspired by the Grammy Award winning producer Quincy Jones, this聽state-of-the-art, flagship level headphone represents the pinnacle in acoustic performance and audio customisation. It features TruNote technology, Tone Control (full control of adjustment sound signature). Stage Control (three spatial listening modes), Patented ergonomic design, USB and HD audio and a built-in DAC.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Enjoying 5 seconds of premium sound with dual foam cushions and ear cup mounted controls (I swear my ears felt聽so comfortable) as well as active noise cancelling technologies. Love it so much leh. Why is it so goddamn expensive? 馃槮

And also not forgetting the hand-selected聽audio gift set I received from the event organisers:

SAMSUNG CSC

AKG Y23 ear聽headphone聽and Y40 mini headset

SAMSUNG CSC

Thank聽you聽so much, IMS Marketing! Boyfriend has been eyeing on the headset ever since. -_-

And that’s about it from HARMAN! 馃檪 Did anything catch your eye? I’ll most probably be getting one of those JBL speakers to replace my current ones. Which one would you recommend? Leave me a comment below!

Thanks for reading! 鉂

EVENT: LINE Friends Pop-Up Store at 313@Somerset

MEDIA INVITE

Hey guys!

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

LINE in Singapore

Almost three years ago when I got my first smartphone (yes, I was probably the last person my age to own a smartphone then because…聽buttons聽for the win), I was so intrigued by聽mobile apps that I started downloading a whole slew of them on it. Messaging apps, of course, form an integral part of my phone usage (because聽for the first time ever, I didn’t have to pay for excessive messaging), even today. I聽had a few of them installed on my phone聽for different purposes but I only actively used two, one of which was LINE for its free voice calls (back then before WhatsApp introduced it) and聽wide selection of expressive stickers.聽The latter reminds me of the good ol’days of MSN Messenger when I would bombard the other party with lots of big emoticons.聽But the Japanese messaging app聽is different in the sense that its stickers feature popular cartoon characters from Disney, SpongeBob SquarePants and even my favourite Pokemon! To date, I think I’ve spent over S$8 on these premium LINE stickers alone ^_^” They’re just sooooo cute!

But that doesn’t leave frugal users, who are reluctant聽to pay, with nothing.聽There are also聽default stickers which are equally expressive and endearing. You’re bound to find something that accurately illustrates your mood among the pool of free stickers starring LINE’s mascots Moon, James, Cony and Brown (the only expressionless one hahaha but still adorbs, my favourite!)

line-friends-pop-up-35

By 2013, LINE became even more popular with over 120 million users (more than 400 million now) across the globe.聽Its mascots even聽have its own聽TV animated series in Japan (click here for episode 1! Please watch it’s damn funny), further proving how well-received the app is.

In 2014, as part of LINE’s efforts to bringing Singaporean closer to the ultimate LINE experience, it聽held its first ever pop-up store at Wisma Atria to roaring success, with as many as 100 people queuing up before its opening to be one of the lucky聽customers to walk away with聽free LINE mini doll worth S$14.

This year,聽if you haven’t heard already,聽the high-anticipated pop-up store聽is back聽again for the second time, at 313@Somerset. Located at the mall’s Atrium on Level 1, the pop-up store will run from 8 June to 15 July 2015 and will likewise have聽an extensive array of official LINE merchandise聽including聽exclusive collaboration items.

THROUGH THE LENS: Happy FIRST Birthday, SkinnyMint!

Hey everyone!

If you recall, I underwent聽a 28-day teatox programme earlier this year courtesy of SkinnyMint which saw me lose a total of 3kg by the end of it. I had never聽lost so much weight in such a short time (despite exercising regularly) and I am indebted to SkinnyMint for steering me towards leading聽a healthier lifestyle. Having gone below the 60kg mark, I am now more determined to maintain my lifestyle changes like consuming less refined grains such as rice and bread聽even after the聽completion of the programme. Judging from the reviews on Instagram (#skinnymint), the tea seems to be working remarkably well on many people!聽My boyfriend who witnessed my聽transformation was also convinced to try SkinnyMint聽馃榾 And he’ll probably start teatoxing during his semester break.

SAMSUNG CSC

Yay my chubby face

It has been a year since SkinnyMint set foot in the Singapore market聽and I was very honoured to be invited to their birthday party at Lantern@Fullerton Bay on 25 March 2015. It was cosy event graced by a few popular bloggers like Yan Kay Kay, who is also one of their ambassadors. I shall let the pictures take you through the party 馃檪 Enjoy!

I’m not exactly the most sociable person around and聽I was very glad to have met so many amazing and friendly people at the party, especially those working for SkinnyMint, because they聽made me feel so much at ease. 馃榾聽Of course, I also have to thank my boyfriend for networking on my behalf when I was聽trying to recover from the queasiness.

Those interested to try the 28-day Teatox programme may find out more about SkinnyMint here.

Thanks for reading! Stay tuned for more updates comin’ up 馃檪
