REVIEW: WELLAGE White Aqua Roll Mask Pack

Hello everyone!

Residing in a city with tropical climate like Singapore has its ups and downs. I, for one, have been on the receiving end of the negative effects of high humidity ever since puberty hit me. As a result of my dehydrated skin (aggravated by my lack of water-drinking habit), moisturisers and other products that help to restore my skin’s natural moisture balance have become an intrinsic part of my skincare routine. The latter includes facial masks which I have a love-hate relationship with because they can get very messy during application.

But I was recently introduced to one which is not only idiot-proof, but also does not leave my bed or the lower half of my body wet. That’s none other than the White Aqua Roll Mask by WELLAGE, a skincare company based in South Korea that prides themselves on formulating “bio cosmetics with NeuroScience”.

Anyone who had seen me unbox my beauty samples from BNTNews would have been equally intrigued by the way the masks are presented. Individually packed in aluminium sachet, the masks are securely kept in a plastic cylindrical tube with Korean instructions on how to use the mask printed on it. Illustrations are also provided for those who don’t understand a single word of Korean. Each tube contains 10 sachets.

Made of quality Cupra fabric, these WELLAGE masks are able to hold moisture for a longer time due to its strong cohesiveness and elasticity and therefore, do not dry out easily. Suitable for sensitive skin, these properties enable the mask to supply nutrients to the facial skin without causing irritation. Furthermore, the mask uses a special technology known as semi-microsome – a finer version of liposome (tiny bubbles that are capable of encapsulating material beneficial to the skin) – to stabilise its 25 functional ingredients and help them penetrate into the skin for longer-lasting moisture.

Unlike typical sheet masks that come in flat, rectangular bags, these ones from WELLAGE remove from the sachets fast with minimal to no drippage of mask gunk because all the serum are settled at the bottom of the packaging. Placing the mask on my forehead with its top edge aligned along the hairline (as depicted in the illustrations above), I gently pulled down the stick on which it is coiled, towards my chin. This minimises unnecessary contact with the mask and thus ensuring the hygiene and purity of the product at all times. At the same time, it also prevents accidental tears which has happened to me too many times during the unfolding process of facial masks I used previously.

The mask surprisingly fits on my face perfectly without the need for much adjustments. I had to pour out some of the serum from the packaging onto my palm to dab it on the mask because it was feeling a little stiff and dry from the lack of serum in it. It is an additional step, but a necessary one, I feel, which could modify the “wetness” of the mask according to my preference. No wet spot was observed on my bed and my neck remained dry throughout the 20-minute experience. And the end result? A dewy and more refreshed appearance of the face.

This product is not quite readily available outside of South Korea so perhaps you guys could keep a lookout for it if you’re travelling because from what I understand, WELLAGE does have stores/counters in certain Seoul shopping malls. There is also a black version of this mask pack presumably for men, though. Korean readers who have tried this brand of facial mask, what do you think of it? Share your thoughts with me in the comments below! 🙂

REVIEW: BEIGE Cosmetics Ampoule Glotint in How Coral

Hello everyone!

Korean beauty products have been all the rage since the early 2000s when the Hallyu wave took the world by storm with a succession of outstanding television series and idol groups. Despite noting that an increasing number of Korean beauty stores have been popping up at every corner of shopping malls in Singapore in recent years, I had never really jumped on the bandwagon and actively used any Korean makeup because the non-conformist in me forbade it. But lately they have grown so popular that it is becoming impossible to dodge their influence. You know what they say, if you can’t beat them, join them, right? So here I am, conforming to trends (albeit a very delayed one) and bringing you my first review on Korean makeup, starting from a lip product by BEIGE Cosmetics!

It is completely understandable if you haven’t heard of BEIGE Cosmetics, because I, too, did not until BNTnews sent me this press sample. Unlike huge brands like Laneige and Missha, BEIGE does not have any retail presence outside of South Korea (but they do have an Instagram handle catered to Singapore customers) and from what I know, they mostly operate out of their online store. It is a relatively new label owned by lifestyle brand CHUU which also runs a fashion line. Even so, BEIGE already has an impressive selection of products ranging from eye shadow palettes to foundation sticks. Check out their catalogue here!

Stored and delivered in a clear slider seal bag, the Ampoule Glotint combines the best of both worlds to give the lustre of lip gloss and the sheer stain of lip tint. It comes with a special triangular applicator to allow for a more precise and effortless application each time.

I don’t have any swatch comparisons to show as I hardly buy lip glosses or tints, but as you can see from the pictures above, the Glotint delivers an intense splash of oriental orange-red with fairly strong coverage – what you would not expect from your typical lip glosses. When applied only on the inner side of the lips, the lipstick bleeds (a little) nicely towards the outer edge to give a more natural looking colour. It applies thick and has a slight citrus smell which I could even detect with my mouth (wait, am I a snake or something).

The Glotint leaves a long-lasting watery sheen that doesn’t appear oily. It locks in moisture to nourish lips that are prone to drying and cracking, so the lips feel nothing but comfort throughout the wear. It a lot less sticky than gloss (still has the sticky sensation but not as much) and hence low adhesive power. Thus, the colour does not last through eating or drinking as it comes off very easily.

What do you think about this lip gloss and tint hybrid? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
