WEDDING SCOOP is a brand new series dedicated to my wedding preparation. In this series, you will find reviews of products and services (ads will be disclosed at the end of the posts) that I have used leading up to the actual day. Hopefully, these will come in handy for any prospective wedding couples ❤️

Hello everyone!

Since the proposal nearly two years ago, fiancé and I have been busy with our wedding preparation (but I must say most, if not all, of the credit goes to him as he has been more hands-on while I’m just hoping for the bare minimum and shirking as many responsibilities as possible) amidst our hectic schedules and the stress was gradually showing on our (his) faces. Apart from the more visible eye bags, we had also noticed our faces becoming more bloated presumably from poor eating habits. Fiancé was the worst hit as existing health issues have prevented him from engaging in strenuous exercises so the other feasible way for him to shed some weight was to watch his diet – which we as foodies often struggle with. Furthermore, having born with a round face meant that any additional weight gained would cause the him to look swollen so whenever we take wefies, he would strategically conceal himself behind me 😒

Unfortunately, he wouldn’t be able to employ this tactic during the pre-wedding photography shoot and, even more so, on the actual day (🤪🤣) because we would be constantly on the move. I could sense his desperation to look his best for this once-in-a-lifetime occasion; hence when Facia Ginza Singapore approached me for a wedding collaboration, I asked if I could pass the opportunity to him. They sorta rejected that idea and had instead extended the invitation to him so that we could both enjoy the treatment together! How thoughtful of them 😍

Relatively new on our shores, Facia Ginza Singapore is an award-winning facial salon with two prior outlets in Tokyo and Taipei, serving as a private sanctuary where women (and now men too if accompanied by a female patron!) can unwind from the daily grind. It provides an authentic Japanese ambience while combining original and highly-effective beauty techniques originating from Ginza, Tokyo. Located at Soho 1 within same complex of The Central (Clarke Quay), Facia Ginza Singapore is convenient and peacefully quiet as visits are by appointment only. Hence, the level is only accessible via the lift with the salon’s acknowledgement.

The techniques of their signature massage – Small Face Care – were developed by the founding team and a group of Japanese orthopaedic doctors. Unlike the Korean Golki therapy which focuses solely on “bone-setting” massages, the Japanese equivalent stimulates the bones through muscles to improve blood circulation and encourage the discharge of waste substance from our skin. Non-invasive with immediate results, the treatment brings about significant changes to the face including a desirable v-shape visage, facial symmetry, radiance, reduced sagging, eye strain reduction and an improved complexion, as well as relief from stiff shoulders and neck – all noticeable in just one session! The benefits of the Small Face Care resonated between us (our videography shoot was just a month away!) and it being the first facial treatment for fiancé, he was absolutely thrilled about it!

After a couple of back-and-forth emails to settle on a date (slots on most days were fully booked), we finally agreed on one which all of us could commit to. The publicity team had wanted to assign their Japanese master therapist (Tomomi Kosho) to me but she was off that day so we were attended by therapists Vivian (fiancé’s) and Andrea (mine) instead – both of whom were equally competent to perform the massage.

Once at the salon, we were offered the Premium Face Care which includes the Small Face Care and a choice of one clinical-grade facial treatment (Moisturising Care, Whitening Care or Pore Cleansing Care). We decided to go with a different treatment so that we could do a more extensive review on the therapy; hence fiancé opted for Pore Cleansing Care while I selected Moisturising Care.

Small Face Care

Upon entering a room that could accommodate two patrons (essentially a couple room), fiancé and I placed our belongings on a ledge near the window and changed out of our clothes into the provided towel wrap (with buttons sewn on) before sliding onto the plastic-covered bed.

The therapists entered the room and did an analysis of our faces with us and highlighted the areas which they would be concentrating on during the treatment. Bringing my attention to my higher left cheekbone to illustrate my facial asymmetry, my therapist took the effort to explain that it could be due to the fact that I have been consistently sleeping on one side of the face (which is very true 🤣), and gave me a rough idea of what I would expect to see at the end of the session.

She began with a décolleté massage (which fiancé thoroughly indulged in) that focused on the shoulders and neck, and proceeded with a muscle sketch using a hot towel. Then, as a quick way to measure the size of our head, we were told to rest our palms on the back of our head and intertwine the fingers of both hands. Our fingers merely met at the tips!

Shifting their attention to the skull and face muscles, they worked to loosen our muscles and make bone adjustments for the next 15 minutes or so. Having experienced the Golki Therapy prior to this, I knew I had to put up with a certain degree of pain during the facial massage. But the initial presses (against the head, back of the head, forehead and cheekbones) were surprisingly bearable although it felt like the therapist had practically exerted her mighty strength with every thump on my face.

My relief, however, abruptly turned to distress when she moved on to my jaw in the final (thank God!) phase of the massage. Somehow it hurt so much – unexpectedly – that tears started streaming down my puckered face uncontrollably and she had to pause for a while to soothe my face like a baby to ease some of the pain 😂 Gosh, how embarrassing! Fiancé, on the other hand, cleverly distracted himself from the agony by repeatedly cracking his knuckles and clenching his teeth.

?!?! This sicko doesn't seem to be in pain at all LOL I'm impressed! I had always thought I was the one with high pain threshold!

At the end of the massage, we positioned our palms at the back of our head again the same way as before and were pleasantly surprised (especially so for fiancé – he was literally dumbfounded by the results!) at how far our fingers could go past the other hand! No rocket science is required to conclude that our faces had shrunk in size 😍 The effectiveness totally won the initially-sceptical fiancé over and he couldn’t stop raving about his smaller, lifted face for the next couple of days! (My poor ears though..)

Double Cleansing

Following the Small Face Care, the therapists cleansed our face with 2 different types of Wove Style cleansing product. As someone with extremely acne-prone skin, it kinda worried me when the therapist kneaded my face after doing so on my scalp because it could potentially transfer dirt or sebum over and cause new pimples to erupt on my face. But this rigorous step certainly robbed the bacteria of the chance to breed and gave me a peace of mind.

Wove Style is a skincare brand developed in Tokyo by WOVE Clinic – one that specialises in anti-aging treatments – which offers a professional line of clinical-grade products produced with the latest technology to deliver GFs (Growth Factors) and other vital nutrients while focusing on cell-activation to achieve fundamentally-improved skin. Most of the products or machines utilised at Facia Ginza are by Wove Style, and they can also be purchased at the cashier for home use if you are satisfied with how your skin feels after the treatment. But be sure to plan your shopping list well because Facial Ginza is currently the only facial salon in Singapore to distribute Wove Style products – you won’t want to make another unnecessary trip there (or spend S$8 on local delivery if you buy it off their online store) just to get that one bottle of Special Essence you missed out on the first time ’round 😉

Facial Steaming and Ultrasonic Cleaning

With fiancé’s face now clean and free of dirt, impurities would less likely be able to get into his pores during the 3 to 5-minute session of facial steaming. Facial steaming further loosens dirt and contaminants that are clogging pores and is a great option for people with blackheads (his biggest concern), and acne-prone skin. While fiancé was getting his face steamed, his therapist performed a gentler version of extraction on his wet skin with an ultrasonic cleanser (that little handheld device with a spatula).

Only Ultrasonic Cleaning for me

Since I had opted for another treatment, I was only offered ultrasonic cleaning at this stage. Therefore, if you’re not sure which face treatment to choose for your Premium Care Treatment, I suggest taking up the Pore Cleansing one because it seems to deliver greater value for the same expenditure with that extra step. Otherwise, if you’re not that gian png (always on the lookout for better deals), go for the one that you think can meet your needs!

Moisturising Care and Pore Cleansing

The Moisturising Care and Pore Cleansing treatments were both carried out via an Electroporation Machine. Developed by dermatology specialists in Japan, electroporation is an innovative process that enables key nutrients and substance to penetrate deeper into our skin as compared to regular treatments that are delivered using supersonic wave and Iontophoresis (the process of transdermal drug delivery by use of a voltage gradient on the skin).

Don't know why I'm sulking here but I was definitely relieved that the kneading was finally over lol

Don’t know why I’m sulking here but I was definitely relieved that the kneading was finally over lol

Electroporation causes little to no pain and is a highly effective treatment (20 to 60 times more effective than Iontophoresis) with an ultrasonic probe vibrating at 25,000 Hz per second to turn the cleaning solution the therapists had applied on our faces into a fine spray to remove pore-clogging dirt. The machine comes with handpieces of different tips designed for each treatment. In my case, it was a revolving flat round tip attached to a rectangular hand grip while the one fiancé’s therapist used looked like a two-pin plug attached to a large pen.

Face Mask

Once the aforementioned treatments were completed, our therapists coated our faces with a layer of Custard Pro Mask using a brush before covering it with a fabric sheet. At this juncture, our therapists would leave the room, giving fiancé the long-awaited opportunity to drift off to sleep when he should be awake to mentally document the whole experience with me 😠 According to the time stamps of my photos (we were instructed to close our eyes), the masking session lasted for about 10 minutes.

Lotion & Moisturiser

Our therapists returned to remove the mask, and apply lotion and moisturiser on our faces. As a finishing touch (literally), we were treated to a final round of massage on the shoulders and the back of our necks before we were left alone in the room again to get changed. Tea and snacks were already served on the table when we reached the reception area. There was even a vanity table for ladies to do their makeup or fix their hair before leaving the salon. Talk about after-service hospitality! 😁

Despite the pain felt during the Small Face Care therapy (which to him was just a short segment of the whole treatment), fiancé enjoyed his Premium Face Care treatment very much and looks forward to his next appointment (that’s right) with Facia Ginza Singapore even though he will have to pay this time. In general, I thought this was much less painful than Golki therapy because the number of kneads into each area were relatively fewer, yet equally, if not more, effective. We did feel a lingering ache in our jaws the next day, but it was too mild to cause any hindrance in our daily routine so we ignored it most of the time.

Of course, one session isn’t going to yield a long-term effect. To maintain the current size of our faces, we were encouraged to do the treatment once a week for the first four to six sessions for optimal results, and once a month subsequently to maintain the effects of the treatment. All in all, the Premium Face Care prepared us well for our videography shoot. Not only did it make our faces look smaller and ease the tension on our shoulders and faces through a very relaxing and invigorating massage, it also helped us achieve a more flawless complexion that ensured we would look marvellous on-screen. That’s killing multiple birds with one stone! ☺

If you are still on the fence about giving Facia Ginza Singapore a shot before your big day, hopefully a special promotion of S$188 NETT (U.P. S$248+) for the first trial AND a free hand pack when you quote “fionaseah.com” (or my name) would push you off the edge!

Hyaluronic Hyalogy Treatment Facial at Indulgence Beauty

Hello everyone!

I often wax lyrical about being a student because of the perks that come with it. But like everything in this material world, it also has its own downsides especially if you’re a final-year undergraduate (or anyone in their final year of study). While everyone else – including my friends who are already in the workforce – celebrates the holidays, my peers and I are slogging our guts out for our final-year project. And because I hold multiple day jobs to pay for my daily expenses, I often have to burn the midnight oil and turn in as late (or early lolz) as 7am just to complete my part of the work which requires a lot of reading and research. This has been going on for months now and as you would expect, my skin hasn’t been in good shape of late.

I don't usually get zits on my nose but when I do, it's those red, headless ones ARGHHHH

I don’t usually get zits on my nose but when I do, it’s those red, headless ones ARGHHHH

Aside from the increased number of zits on my cheeks and jaw area, my face had also become visibly drier and a lot more sallow, most likely due to my sleep deprivation which, according to Cosmopolitan, strips my skin of its moisture. Much as I’d like reverse the damage by having sufficient sleep, it is practically not feasible for now, or at least until next March (what terrible example I’m setting, I know.. time management is clearly not my forte) when my project officially comes to an end. Hence, I would have to rely on superficial methods to relieve the effects of stress on my skin for the meantime, one of which is to get a professional facial just so that I can (finally) lay back and relax for those few hours.

Three months had lapsed since my last facial session so obviously all the good done previously to my face had already been unravelled. Therefore, I was really psyched to receive a rather timely invite from the manager of Indulgence Beauty, a facial salon conveniently located at Tanjong Pagar (about 5 minutes away from Tanjong Pagar MRT station), to try out one of their services.

Getting to Tanjong Pagar Plaza where the salon is housed was a breeze but finding the unit itself took me a while because the whole place is seriously like a maze! But once you manage to find the correct corridor of shops, it would be easy to spot the salon. If you see a portrait of Edmund Chen fronting a shop, that’s when you know you’ve arrived at your destination 😉

Walking into a spotless, spacious and brightly lit reception area, the beauty parlour gave the impression of cleanliness and professionalism which immediately put any first-timer at ease. I was welcomed by one of the beauticians, Anna, who would later attend to my facial needs. But before that, I had to go through the formality of registration to indicate my beauty regimen, allergies and whatnot.

The facial rooms were tucked behind a closed door at the back of the counter and there were also lockers for you to store your belongings. I was brought to the room nearest to the entrance to change into a loose-fitting silky tube top and a pair of bottoms. The top affirmed my belief that I had got very nanoscopic boobs because it kept sliding down XD

Anna then cleansed my face using MD Dermatics’ C-Cleanse Clarifying Wash to remove any unwanted debris (makeup, sunscreen, moisturiser, etc.) before proceeding with the skin analysis and actual facial. Indulgence Beauty uses mainly MD Dermatics to treat aesthetic skin concerns. A highly trusted brand, it has recently won the “Best for Hydration Serum” and “Most Waterproof Sunscreen” Bright Sparks Awards from Cosmopolitan Singapore.

A simple and straight-forward skin analysis was conducted back at the reception area. Unlike facial salons I had been to, Indulgence Beauty uses a complexion analyser to determine the type of facial I should go for. According to Anna, the machine was able to work out my skin’s moisture level and skin-tone evenness, thus giving a more accurate measure of my skin condition than just by scrutinising my face. A picture of my face was captured with a flash and subsequently the image, along with some analysis results, appeared on the computer screen next to me.

Not surprisingly, my skin was found to be dry and lacklustre with an estimated age of 30 – five years more than my present age  – and was extremely prone to wrinkles. My sebum was likely to be trapped below the surface; hence the many clogged pores (I was told that they were not acne) on my face. My skin tone was unexpectedly even, though. Perhaps all the whitening products really did work after all 😀 Based on my analysis results, I was recommended to try the Hyaluronic Hyalogy Treatment Facial, a newly launched treatment designed for dehydrated skin like mine.

Shortly after the consultation, I was ushered back to the facial room where I would receive the long-awaited pampering.  Anna began her magic with some unidentified serum on my face coupled with a few soothing strokes.

Following that, perhaps seeing how my brows were in such disarray (ain’t got no time for that thanks to my FYP), Anna offered to shape them for me. Of course, this additional service does not just apply to me. I’m sure she would also be tempted to do yours too if you have similarly messy ones 😉 It would hurt a little for the first-timers but as the saying goes, “no pain, no gain”! I’ve always enjoyed my brow-shaping sessions and this was no exception. My unruly and uneven brows turned out to be beautifully groomed.

The dreaded extraction came next but instead of using a comedone extractor which might tear or flake the targeted areas of my poor dry sky, Anna used her mighty fingers to squeeze those pesky clogged pores. I don’t know which method is more beneficial for my skin but one thing’s for sure, I didn’t feel like I was being put in an excruciating ordeal. The pain (if any) was extremely bearable. No tears were shed during the whole process! My face wasn’t as red and blotchy as I had imagined too.

Anna then tried to calm the redness by further massaging my face with a tranquility cream before progressing to the next stage. I tell you, her massage techniques were ah-mazing! They were thorough (definitely not the chop-chop, want-to-get-this-over-and-done-with kind), gentle yet perfectly firm. I could literally feel my face revitalised with every stroke.

The final part of the facial session involved a clay masque which would entirely envelop my face (even my eyes). Cool to the touch, it felt slightly heavy on the skin and hardened after a certain time, so try not to think of anything funny during this period because it may cause a crack on the masque if you burst out laughing.

This clay masque leaves your skin radiant, illuminated and glowing and renews your skin to give it a smoother and softer texture. On top of that, it also minimises the appearance of pores, improves the skin tone to provide you with a more youthful and healthy-looking appearance.

You know how beauticians would normally leave you in the facial room for what would feel like an eternity while the masque is sitting on your face? To be honest, I hated that because it makes me feel idle and the fact that I have to keep still with my back against the bed throughout the duration makes me feel very uneasy and stiff. But guess what? after applying the clay masque on my face, Anna went on to give me a full shoulder and neck massage for at least 10 minutes (could be a lot longer but it certainly didn’t feel long enough since it was so relaxing)!

YES, another massage!!!

Just what did I do to deserve this?! ❤

The masque was subsequently peeled off from my face afte. It came off effortlessly like silicone and my face instantly felt brand new. Finishing off the whole treatment, moisturiser was applied onto my face to give it a moisture boost.

6 Vital Points to Massage for Health and Beauty

SPONSORED

Hey everyone!

In this day and age of face-paced living, it is almost impossible to relax yourselves especially when you’re residing in Singapore, where one in four workers here reported being highly stressed in a poll conducted by the Health Promotion Board (HPB) in 2013. Fortnightly pampering sessions like trips to facial spas, massage or nail parlours are reduced to once a month (none, for some) as you rise through the ranks with heavier responsibilities to shoulder because there’s just no time for that. As a former supervisor in a popular tuition centre who had to juggle work, study and love life, I can totally understand the fatigue from working long hours with little time to recuperate. At work, I had to run 3 outlets and be at my ex-bosses’ beck and call, sometimes even working past midnight to tie up loose ends. I worked over the weekends due to lack of manpower and hardly had time for leisure because most shutters would be down by the time I knocked off. With such hectic lifestyle (as with what most working adults are experiencing here, albeit I’m sure not as demanding as mine – that’s why I’m now out of there 😐 ), who would have the time for relaxation?

But do you know that it is very important to relax your body? Not only does it “trigger a flurry of genetic activity that is responsible for some important health benefits“, it also rejuvenates your body and slows down your ageing process! You don’t know how chao lao (old and haggard) I looked when I was slogging at the tuition centre three years ago. I looked frail with terrible complexion, had my hair falling out and fallen sick a couple of times in a short period. All these could have been avoided if I had found a better job hadn’t put so much unnecessary pressure on myself (trying to perfect myself at work) and relaxed. Ex-colleagues used to describe me as a kan chiong spider, overly anxious about everything.

Since I left my job, I had all the time in the world to pamper myself. I started indulging myself with full body massages (occasionally, coz so pricey omg) and foot reflexology and really felt the difference in my general health (slept better, getting sick less often, etc.). I did the latter typically weekly. Even so, you know how expensive such massages are in Singapore. Each 40-minute reflexology session costs at least S$30 at some places and doing it long term will make me go miserably broke.

Then one day, I had this sudden realisation that I could do the massage myself (learnt by secretly observing the masseur’s techniques ohohohoho!!). It’s a bit troublesome lah but I could save LOTS of money in the long run, so why not? And it works even better with this Warming and Facial Body Roller I had received from Panasonic to review as part of the requirements for being a finalist of the Singapore Blog Awards.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Warming Facial & Body Roller EH-SP32 (S$189)

The Warming Facial & Body Roller is such an amazing tool – it comes with two detachable rollers (squeezing and stroking rollers) to suit use and preference and even has a heating element to create warming effect on skin! I largely enjoy using it because of this feature. It’s like putting a warm towel on your body.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Adjustable temperature – Hi (approx 48°C) and Low (44°C) available

So now I’m going to share with you guys the areas on your body to massage, as well as some really simple (yet very beneficial) massage techniques I’ve acquired by observation and research combined with my takeaway from my recently attended workshop conducted by top health and beauty guru, Bryan Gan 老师!

IMPORTANT NOTES!

▪ Do not use the device with any lotions, oils, creams or alcohol wipes as doing so may damage the roller.
▪ Do not soak product in water or use in locations with high temperatures and levels of humidity as it is not waterproof.
Do not use the roller while wearing makeup as the makeup can get into the gaps in the roller and damage it.
▪ Do not wash the product. Wipe with baby wipes (no alcohol wipes) after use.

1. Face

Facial massages, although easy and intuitive, are often overlooked but do you know that by relaxing your facial muscles and connective tissues, you’re actually softening your expression-induced lines around your eyes, lips and brows, helps expel acne-causing toxins and de-puffs and brightens the eye area [1]? That’s right! By massaging your face often, you not only get a face lift naturally, you also save money on Botox! But remember, all facial massages are to be done in an upward direction. You don’t want your skin to sag as a result of the massage, right?

Psst.. If you don’t have a roller, just stroke with your fingers or massage in rotational movements 🙂

  • Set your temperature to ‘LOW’. Beginning with your contour lines, move the squeezing roller from the bottom of the chin to the bottom of the ears so as to squeeze and lift. Also, clench your jaw and roll onto the masseter muscles (a.k.a jaw muscles, the upper part of your jaw that’s protruding out, both sides) 10 times. Push one end of the diamond roller into the masseter muscle and rotate around it. Do it 5 times for the first time and gradually increase it to 10 times. This can help to relieve constipation and migraine.

  • Move the roller from the corner of the nose to the ear and slowly move upwards to the area under the eyes. Do this 5 to 10 times because the skin there is more tender. This will help to soothe puffiness and relieve muscle tension under the eyes.

  • Move the roller to your forehead in an upward direction. Do this 10 to 15 times. This will help to even out the skin (no more wrinkles!) above your brows.

  • And finally, move the roller up from the bottom of the chin to the bottom of the lower lip. Do this 10 to 15 times.

2. Scalp

If you’ve been to salons to get your hair washed, you might have experienced having your scalp massaged for a few minutes. It’s one of my favourite moments in the salon because the feeling is so orgasmic and I’d sometimes fall asleep unknowingly. Well, scalp massage actually helps to increase blood flow to the hair follicles, thus promoting hair growth. It can also ease the tension you feel in your neck and behind your eyes.

I’d sometimes rub and knead the skin of my scalp with my bare fingers which can get tiring after a while. Now that I have the roller, it makes my life even easier! A technique that I’ve come up with, it’s not as enjoyable as having your scalp massaged by a professional but it’s still better than nothing. Use the roller with a teeny weeny bit more strength.

3. Neck

If you have neck stiffness, this is something you should try! Neck stiffness is caused by stress, excessive computer use, head and neck trauma and bad posture. This in turn reduces the blood flow to cause fatigue, headaches, dizziness, panic attacks, insomnia, and poor functioning of the immune system. Hence a good neck massage would help relieve that stiffness and rectify or prevent the above problems [2].

Using the squeezing roller, move it up and down and enjoy the grip! Then, move the roller down to the shoulder and back up to your neck again to give it a good massage! Feel the warmth of the roller, it’ll make you feel so good!

(optional) I use the stroking roller to “roll down” my double chin. HAHA!

4. Stomach

The appliance also helps to tone your stomach and at the same time, activates the acupressure points around the stomach area to ease indigestion and bloating (have to be followed by peppermint oil), rid water retention and boost your immune system. Switch to the stroking roller, turn the temperature to ‘HI’ and move the roller up and down. As it’s going to get very comfortable, it’s best to do this exercise on your bed. Do this 30 to 50 times before sleeping 😉

5. Arms

If you’re a victim of bye-bye arms like me, this roller can help tone them! It also makes you feel so awesomely good and at the same time, invigorates your tired and aching arms (maybe from carrying all the heavy shopping bags! GSS mah)

  • Going back to the squeezing roller, raise your arm and move the roller up and down your underarm about 50 times (following the stomach exercise) or for around 3 seconds. You will feel the device gripping onto your flabs.

The product can also be used on your wrist and elbow but I personally use it around my wrist to improve my lung circulation. In Chinese medicine, massaging the wrist (内关 nei guan) ensures smooth flow of Qi (oxygen) in chest and it is good for relieving pain when breathing. It also, among many other benefits, improves cardiac functions; prevents cardiovascular diseases such as angina, stuffy chest, palpitations. Perfect for asthma sufferers like me!

  • Move the roller from the wrist toward the elbow. There is a “point of sleep” on your wrist where massaging it would make you feel drowsy (great if you’re insomniac). It’s located at the point where your ring finger and index finger meet when a line is drawn vertically downward from the fingers to the wrist.

6. Legs

Despite being the most used part of the body, your thighs are sadly the most neglected part of your leg which you walk on all day. Unless you’re in for a full-body massage, no masseur (especially if he’s a guy) would dare to touch your upper thighs during a reflexology session. It’s a very sensitive area and touching it would give you goosebumps instantly. So yes, you are solely responsible for your poor overworked thighs.

  • To relieve muscle tension around the thighs, move the roller from the knee towards the upper thigh. Do it for about 2 seconds. I like to do it around my inner thigh though ^_^

Like runners, ladies who love wearing high heels would often experience sore calves. The calves most likely get injured more often than not due to very intensive calves workout or running. Calf muscle injuries can greatly hinder your mobiliy because they are what help you walk, run or jump  so it’s important that you take great care of them.

  • To improve your systemic circulation and reduce scar tissue (happens when your calf injury is left untreated), move the roller from bottom to top. Do this for around 2 seconds.

Last but not least, alright, this will probably disgust some of you clean freaks out there but hey, I realised that it can also be used on your feet! For obvious reasons, please only do this step after you’ve completed your facial massage haha. And of course, after you’ve washed your feet thoroughly. Feet massage has a truckload of benefits including promoting better sleep, improving blood circulation and relieving aches and pains and many more. After all, your feet are packed with nerve endings connected to every part of your body.

  • Use your squeezing roller and target different points of your feet. Since the diamond roller is quite huge, you can probably only massage the centre of your foot, grip the sides and the area beneath your toes (press the diamond against it – your Tai Yang acupuncture point is somewhere there). If you don’t have the roller, you mainly use your thumb.

There are in fact other areas of concern mentioned by certified massage therapists, like on the buttocks, spine (actually this is worth trying!) and collar bones but I’ve yet to explore them. Essentially, it’s the same massage technique using the squeezing roller – just move the roller up and down and enjoy the warmth and grip!

In a nutshell… (tl;dr version)

It’s super easy and since the appliance is so portable, you can do it any time, any where, even in your office, in your car, while watching your favourite Korean drama on the computer screen.. you get the gist. What’s more, if you have aged parents at home, you can also help massage their hands or legs with the roller. But be warned, they’ll probably request for MORE sessions like this in the future because it’s seriously very comfortable. (Never mind lah, they like can already. Filial piety mah!)
